A note on the name
Pier 25 is the place I used to visit to seek tranquility away from Manhattan’s busy streets. During my time in New York City as an expat and fresh graduate just starting off my career in the tech industry, every other day, if I’m not at the Yoga Studio, I would be taking a walk by the Hudson River. These regular walks became my NYC ritual, usually starting from Pier 57, passing by a series of Chelsea piers all the way to Tribeca. Though I never made a conscious decision on where to stop, part of me enjoyed a flâneur-like walk. My legs had made it clear to regularly stop me at Pier 25, and so I listened.
Pier 25 became the endpoint of my walks, but never to my wandering mind. On the North of Moore Street, Pier 25 is part of the Hudson River Park and one of the longest and liveliest piers. It’s home to the Mauro Memorial mini-golf course, a children's playground, and spectacular views of Manhattan's downtown skyline, where you can also see the Statue of Liberty. After every walk, I stop by, take a swing, reflect on my day, unwind, and envision all life possibilities. When the sun sets, I alternate between touring the West Village all the way to my apartment or call it a day and hail a cab in the most NYC fashion. Many special places in Manhattan I hold dear to my heart, but Pier 25 has been the most generous host to my thoughts. I hope this publication leaves you with the same sense of wonder and energy I always felt there.
